SussexPlus FAQs

What’s the difference between a webfolio and a CV?

A CV (curriculum vitae) is a one or two page written description of your work experience, educational background and skills. A webfolio is like a multimedia CV/private webpage – rather than simply writing a summary list of everything that you’ve done, we want you to use your webfolio to record, describe and evidence (using photos, movies, files, assets) all the skills you’ve gained during your time at Sussex. If you want to see some examples of webfolios, check out this blog entry.

What is an asset?

An ‘asset’ is anything that you upload to SussexPlus (e.g. a word document, an image, a PDF, a movie clip) or anything that you create within SussexPlus (e.g. a webfolio, a blog, an activity, an ability). To view a list of your assets, click on ‘view’ then ‘my assets’ on the SussexPlus home page. Click on an asset to view, edit or share it. For more info on assets, have a look at this blog entry.

Can I publish my webfolio online?

You cannot publish your webfolio online (like a blog or website) but you can share your webfolio with people by sending them an email containing a URL linking to your webfolio and password to log in. To share your webfolio with, for example, an employer select it from ‘my assets’ then click on ‘send to…’ on the right-hand pad. This will present you with a list of options. Select ‘person’ then the ’add a contact’ tab on the left-hand menu. Enter first name, surname and email then click the green tick at the bottom to add to your contacts. The person you have added will now appear in your contacts. Select them to send your webfolio to. Before you send your webfolio to someone, you will see a list of permissions – ensure that only the ‘view’ box is ticked, then click the green tick and your asset has been sent. On the permissions page, you can also limit the amount of time that someone is able to view your webfolio for.

Where can I find the SussexPlus Webfolio Checklist form?

To find the form and add it to your asset store, click on the ‘create new’ button at the bottom of the homepad. Then click ‘more…’ and select ‘form’. On the right, you will see a list of forms appear. Select ‘SussexPlus Webfolio Checklist (2010)’ and click the green tick at the bottom of the pad. You will then be able to complete this form and save it in your asset store.

How do I add the SussexPlus Webfolio Checklist form to my Webfolio?

Find the webfolio you’d like to add the SussexPlus Webfolio Checklist form to in your asset store, then select ‘edit this asset’ from the menu pad on the right. Select number 4 on the pad – the ‘add your pages’ section. Hover over the ‘item’ tab at the top and select ‘browse by type’ when prompted. From the drop-down menu, select ‘show forms’ – here, you should see your completed SussexPlus Webfolio Checklist form. Highlight this then click the green plus sign at the bottom to add this form as a webfolio page.

How will my webfolio be graded?

The Careers & Employability Centre do not grade your SussexPlus webfolio. Provided you have met the desired learning outcomes of SussexPlus (listed in the handout How do I stand out from the crowd and claim my SussexPlus Certificate) you will be awarded your SussexPlus certificate.

What happens when I’ve submitted my webfolio? Is that it?

Your SussexPlus webfolio is meant to be on ongoing project. If you like, you can submit your webfolio every year that you’re at Sussex so that you (and we) can see how you’re improving! Even after you leave Sussex, you’ll still be able to carry on using  SussexPlus and adding to your webfolio for free for a year after you graduate.

Where do I collect my SussexPlus certificate from?

If you are successful in claiming your SussexPlus certificate, the Careers  & Employability Centre will notify you  within 14 days. You can then come to see the SussexPlus team at the Careers & Employability Centre to collect your certificate.
